Course Registration

All our food safety courses are taught by local Certified Public Health Inspectors who entertain as they educate with amazing real-life restaurant inspection stories full of the best and worst examples of food handling imaginable. Official FOODSAFE Certificates are issued by the local Health Authority.

Who Needs FOODSAFE Level 1?

    • This course is mandatory for food service establishment operators and at least one employee on every shift in British Columbia, as per BC’s Food Premises Regulation. It’s ideal for cooks, servers, dishwashers, bussers, deli workers, and anyone involved in food handling, preparation, or storage in restaurants, cafes, daycares, hotels, and care facilities. Many students take it simply to ensure the foods they serve to their friends, family, and selves are safe.

What You Will Learn:

    • Introduction to Foodborne Illness and how microbes cause food poisoning.
    • Safe Food Handling Practices: Receiving, storing, cooking, cooling, reheating, cold-holding, hot-holding, thawing, and serving foods.
    • Personal Hygiene for food handlers to prevent contamination.
    • Cleaning and Sanitizing procedures for equipment and surfaces.
    • Understanding the Food Temperature Danger Zone and cross-contamination prevention.

Course Format & Certification:

    • Our FOODSAFE Level 1 courses are available in-person at locations throughout BC or via live videoconference (Zoom).
    • Receive a temporary certificate immediately upon successful completion of your exam, and your official certificate from the local Health Authority.
    • Certificates are valid for 5 years.

FOODSAFE 1 - VIDEOCONFERENCE by ZOOM

IMPORTANT INFORMATION:

  • The exam can be taken either via Zoom at a mutually agreeable time or in person beginning at 3:00-3:30 pm on November 2, 2024 in Room 6 of the Bowen Park Complex, along with students taking the in-person Foodsafe class that day. Government-issued identification is required.
  • This course is presented online by a live FOODSAFE instructor.  Students must have microphone and camera activated during the course.
